Awkward is an American teen comedy series created by Lauren Iungerich for MTV. The show's central character is Jenna Hamilton (Ashley Rickards), a Palos Verdes, California, teenager who struggles to establish her identity, which is complicated when she has a freak accident that is misinterpreted as a suicide attempt.

The series premiered on July 19, 2011. Awkward's first season was generally well-received with television critics praising the show's realism and writing as well as its central character, and was included in various critics' top ten lists. The show also earned several award nominations, winning one Teen Choice Award and one People's Choice Award.

As a result of the high critics, MTV officially renewed the series for a second season on August 16, 2011. The second season premiered on June 28, 2012 at 10:30pm.

Awkward was officially renewed for a third season with an order of 20 episodes on July 25, 2012, which began airing on April 16, 2013 at 10:00pm. The series was moved from Thursday night to Monday's lineup. On June 26, 2013 it was announced that the show's creator Lauren Iungerich would be exiting the show after production of Season 3A, which concluded on May 26th, 2013. The Spring Finale aired on June 11, 2013. The rest of the show's third season began airing on October 22, 2013. The series then moved from Monday night to Tuesday night. When Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler became new showrunners, the series was retooled, becoming more about rest of the Main characters, and less focused on Jenna.

MTV renewed the series for a fourth season with an order of 21 episodes on August 5, 2013, that began airing on April 15, 2014 with new showrunners, Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler, to replace creator and former showrunner, Lauren Iungerich. The first part of the season concluded with a 2 hour Spring finale June 17, 2014. The rest of the of the fourth season began airing on September 23, 2014.

MTV renewed the series for a fifth and final season with an order of 24 episodes on October 8th, 2014, which began airing on August 31, 2015, 9:00 PM. The Series was rescheduled for Monday nights in an attempt to boost ratings, but it failed poorly. On November 8, 2015, the first half of the season came to an end with a two-hour Fall Finale. On March 14, 2016, the remainder of the show's final season premiered. The show was moved back to a Tuesday night schedule, where it regained a respectable, if not particularly high, rating.

During the fifth season's midseason break, the cast and creators hoped to earn a sixth season renewal, but MTV's rebranding to reality shows at the time prevented them from doing so. As a result, the show had an unceremonious series end. The new showrunners attempted to sell the cancelled show to other networks such as VH1, Paramount Network (now Paramount+), and Netflix. But all of them turned them down.

Ashley Rickards confirmed on Twitter May 26th, 2016 by replying to a fan's question in a now deleted tweet if the show is going to come back for a sixth season, which she replied saying the season finale was the series finale

In recent years after the show's cancellation, the cast has been posting on social media that they are still close, piqueing people's interest in a reboot, although no reboot reports have been confirmed as of 2022.

So Jenna goes back to Prom and sees Matty there. They profess their love for each other and start dating again. Jake and Gabby also get back together. After some drama before the graduation which led Matty and Sadie almost not getting the chance to not graduate with their friends, the class of 2015 finally graduates.
